The year is 2020 and the gasoline tax is history. In its place you get
a monthly tax bill based on each mile you drove — tracked by a Global
Positioning System device in your car and uploaded to a billing center.
I am utterly damned tired of being snooped on by psychopaths and bullies. Where I am located right now and where I have been is not the business of government thugs and snitches.
The "mileage tax" also does not encourage economy.

Well, by 2020 there may be a lot more non-gas vehicles on the road not paying any fuel taxes. Gotta get their fare share somehow.
Of course they will not institute a mileage tax INSTEAD of a fuel tax. They will do both.
If they are dumb enough to use GPS, it will spawn an industry of GPS jammers and decoys.
