MV Rachel Corrie due to reach Gaza within hours

• War in Context
The MV Rachel Corrie, a cargo ship in the Freedom Flotilla whose passage from Ireland was delayed by mechanical difficulties, is now hours away from its destination.

"I commend this courageous action of brave international civilians who are carrying essential medical, education and construction materials denied by Israeli suffocating and illegal siege on Gaza."

If this is about "urgently needed humanitarian aid," why is Gaza refusing to allow Israel to deliver the cargo from the previous vessels? The answer? Because it is not about humanitarian aid at all - it is about forcing confrontation.

JERUSALEM – The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas ruling Gaza is not allowing Israel to deliver the aid brought by activists in a flotilla seized earlier this week, the Israeli military said on Wednesday.

Israel has filled 20 trucks with cargo from the captured ships, mostly medical supplies, clothes, blankets and toys, but has not been able to take them into the territory, military spokeswoman Avital Leibovitz told reporters.

“Unfortunately at this point the Palestinians are not willing to accept the cargo so the trucks that are loaded are not entering the Gaza Strip,” she said. “Our understanding is that Hamas is actually stopping the entrance of this humanitarian aid,” she added.
