Mystery: Flamingos drop out of Siberian skies

• Terrence Aym
During an especially frigid day in November, two Russian brothers named Kolya and Maksim Muravyev were ice fishing on the Siberian Lena River. At the time it was a brisk -13 Fahrenheit. As they fished, one of them noticed something falling from the sky overhead. It looked like a flamingo! Later, speaking with a Russian television reporter about the incident, Koyla said, "We thought it was a swan or a stork." Both boys were shocked that the bird was a flamingo. "It was large, and made ever lower circles in the sky, Koyla explained. "It seemed to be losing energy until finally it fell and lay quietly on the snow."
