Poll: Ron Paul, Rick Santorum compete for third in Florida

Republican presidential candidates Ron Paul and Rick Santorum are in a heated competition for third in Florida. According to the latest We Ask America poll of likely voters in the Florida Republican primary, Mr. Paul garnered 8 percent of the votes and Mr. Santorum pulled in 9 percent of the votes.

Although the Texas Republican and Pennsylvania Republican are tied for third place in Florida, only four percent of likely voters think that either of the two candidates will win the Republican presidential nomination.

Despite his attendance at Monday night’s Republican debate, Mr. Paul is expected to bypass Florida in order to focus on upcoming caucus states like Maine, Minnesota and Nevada. Although his name will appear on the Florida Republican primary ballot, the Paul campaign believes that resources will be better spent elsewhere.

“It’s the momentum that we want,” Mr. Paul posited to CNN Sunday. “And our goal is to get delegates. And we’re going to be doing the states were they allocate by percentages as well as caucus states. So that’s been our plan all along.”
