Veterans For Peace, a non-profit educational organization, has elected Leah Bolger, a retired U.S. Navy commander to serve as its first female president in its 26-year history. VFP has over 5000 members organized into more than 125 chapters across the country and seeks to educate the public about the true costs and consequences of wars and militarism
Bolger, who retired after 20 years of active duty service in 2000, received her commission from Officer Candidates' School in Newport, RI in 1980. Her service included four overseas tours including Iceland, Bermuda, Japan and Tunisia.
