Researchers from the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University have discovered a novel way to create the world’s smallest 3D batteries. They posit that these batteries may one day be used to create tiny medical implants, compact electronics, and other miniaturized devices that have been waiting patiently for the invention of batteries small enough to fit inside them.

How exactly did researchers create these microbatteries? Researchers from Harvard University and the University of Illinois and Urbana-Champaign printed correctly interlaced stacks of small battery electrodes, each less than the width of a single human hair.
