Read the Club of Rome report entitled THE LIMITS OF GROWTH, published in 1971 or 1972.  In that document, "they" (the 1%) outline their plan, to use "global warming" to generate fear and to indoctrinate the public, by controlling the narrative (via consensus/conformity - those who don't go along with the official narrative on global warming, as with so many other official pronouncements in our PC world - don't get funding or don't get tenure...), AND, to get the public to go along with whatever "they" decide is the pre-determined solution to the "global warming" problem:  such as - a carbon tax, for example.  It's just another way, they seek to control everyone for their own benefit.  Wake up.
