Showdown in Brazil

Since Israel sees no difference between Jews who live in the West Bank and Jews who live in other parts of the country they sent him and won't accept the Brazilian government's rejection.

Only other countries still make the distinction between West Bank and non-West Bank Israel. Israel only makes this distinction when it involves Palestinians. The question is, is this a mere gesture on the part of Brazil, or is the Brazilian government serious about challenging Israel? One would hope that this is a serious challenge to Israel and that it will be the first of many. But a serious challenge will require serious commitment to the cause of justice and freedom in Palestine, and that is not easy.

As already mentioned, Israel sees no distinction between Jews who reside in the West Bank and those who reside in other parts of the country because in fact, the West Bank itself does not exist in Israel. All state and official references to what use to be the West Bank, refer to the region by the name "Judea and Samaria." There are no official maps of any kind, from Israeli schoolbooks to weather and hiking maps that show the West Bank at all.
