President Biden and Vice President Harris congratulated NASA on the Christmas Day launch of the James Webb Space Telescope 

The $10 billion telescope launched from the European Space Agency's base in French New Guinea at 7.20AM ET (12.20PM GMT) on Saturday morning

The telescope completed its first mid-course correction burn at 7.50pm ET (12.50PM GMT) later that night, which lasted about 65 minutes

A mid-course correction burn is considered a time-critical milestone launch in the beginning of the journey

The Webb telescope is expected to travel to the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point (L2) about a million miles away from Earth
