Using an old Light Tower to Charge Off Grid Batteries
• https://www.youtube.com, DavidPozWhen there isn't enough solar energy, I fire up a generator to help. Let's see how efficient this setup is with Chargeverters.
The light tower is a Wacker Neuson LTN6. It has a 6000 Watt generator head (6kVA) paired with a Kohler 1-liter, 3-cylinder, liquid cooled, diesel engine. The setup should be fairly efficient except for one thing. The generator head is 120 Volt only. I would prefer 240V, but lets test this as-is for fuel efficiency.
The light tower was beat up when I bought it, so I removed the lights. I did maintenance, and replaced the capacitor to get it working. Now the generator works great.
I have to build a custom extension cord in order to plug in two chargers (100A Chargeverters). These are made for charging 48V (51.2V) lithium battery banks.
