Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado will likely be the next president of Venezuela following Nicolas Maduro's capture by the United States. 

Opposition leaders Machado and Edmundo González could be next in line to succeed in the South American country, according to a Caracas expert. 

Machado, the leader of the center-right liberal Vente Venezuela opposition party, took to X following the military invasion.

'Venezuelans, the hour of freedom has arrived,' Machado said in a translated statement.

Machado praised the US for fulfilling a promise to enforce the law, given Maduro's refusal to exit office after it was widely accepted that he had lost the election.

She said that Edmundo González, the candidate who ran against Maduro and was recognized by the US as the rightful president-elect, should assume office immediately.

'Today we are prepared to enforce our mandate and take power,' Machado said.

'We are going to restore order, release the political prisoners, build an exceptional country, and bring our children back home.'

But in a press conference on Saturday, Trump told reporters he has not been in contact with Machado and that she will not take over for Maduro.

The US will take control of Venezuela, with Rubio and Hegseth working as a 'team' alongside the 'people of Venezuela.' 

President of the Economic Inclusion Group, Jorge Jraissati told Fox News Digital that 'Machado and Gonzalez would assume a transitional government in Venezuela. 

'They have the support of 70 percent of Venezuelans. They would lead this transition period.'

Jraissati believes Machado has 'the capacity and integrity' to lead the country as it copes with the shock of its authoritarian former leader being removed from power. 

'[The] key will be her ability to surround herself with young and capable Venezuelans instead of career politicians,' he told the outlet.
