As we continue the last days of the 43rd presidency and the office of GWB, another look back in time in our second installment of Farewell To The Chimp. 

 

This piece was written BEFORE we invaded Afghanistan, shortly after 9/11. It reminds me of a time when most of the nation had become militant zombies and people who published such pieces would get death threats. It reminds me of the months when the first muted voices crying fowl on bogus intel started circulating. But it didn't take a lot of intel to figure out we were going to visit horrible and brutal collective punishment upon peoples who almost certainly had no connection to "Al-Queda". It was a time when a nation, blinded by anger, literally lost it's senses and went insane.

Before September no one cared about Afghanistan
No one knew our own history
how we'd created the borders of the modern mideast
how we'd installed their monarchies
how we'd supported repression
and helped squash dissention
and prevented half the world from achieving self determination.
No one cared that we'd made them our whores,
no one cared that we had funded wars and walked away from wars
as quickly as we changed our fashions stateside.
All for western Europe's oil supply
and caviar by the fireside.
We'll handle this in our usual stride,
we send our young men out to die,
and see non-com bodies piled high.

But let's get a jump on the whole situation
by suspending some rights in our own Constitution.
How many detained under what legal function?
Top it all off with old fashioned persecution
of those who are brown or of different religion.
If God were to look down on this whole situation,
would He see the response of a civilized nation?

You want to know how this shit passes?
You won't get up off your asses.
Want to know what you can do?
Spend some time and find out the truth.

There's no easy answer I'm afraid,
the tab has been called and we're gonna pay.
Any active solution that we try to play
will end up in their hand-it's Osama's game.
Now remember this when the politicians say
we should run on in there and just blow 'em away
we can't make war against the entire mid east, northern Africa and
northeast Asia and the southeast of Europe combined--at least not today.
The hawks will be happy when we're all in our graves.
"I told you so" will be what their headstones say.

But here's the good news, have no doubt:
we got ourselves into this and we can get ourselves out.
The folks we're up against are humans too
this is about people like me and you.
Those people on TV or you see about
black, brown, yellow, white and red
are all God's children, beloved.
Of this, have no doubt.

Now remember this when the politicians say

When the hawks talk of war, tell them to cram it.
THIS THING IS, WAS AND WILL REMAIN ABOUT OIL God DAMN IT.

If God were to look down on this whole situation,
would He see the works of a civilized nation?
Tearing up half the world so we can drive to work and vacation...
Now we'll rise up in righteous indignation
and stomp some poor folks who are weak from starvation.

Let me say this explicitly friend,
God is not watching CNN.
He sees right through the network spin.
He's seen what we've done again and again
and He makes no distinction between men.
We're the same to Him as them.
If we learn this in our hearts and act accordingly then
we might not hide our faces when we come before Him.

He does not hold to the conceit that we keep
-He loves them just as He loves us-
from their Arab, African and Asian heads to their Arab, African and Asian feet.
