Climate Bill Passes Key Procedural Hurdle in House
6/26/09
•
Wall Street Journal
A landmark climate bill narrowly passed a key procedural hurdle in the House Friday, a sign that leadership may just barely have enough votes for final passage later in the day. Republicans said the bill included the largest tax increase in American history.
It passed by a vote of 217-205. To ensure final passage, the bill needs 218 votes.
Passage of the controversial bill will hand Democrats and President Barack Obama a major victory on a cornerstone administration policy. It would also give Washington strong bargaining leverage ahead of international climate negotiations later this year.

Arizona Republic
The majority opinion sent a strong message to lower courts by
questioning why schools and states should remain under the direction of
federal courts for so many years.
The Court of Appeals "improperly substituted its own policy
judgments for those of the state and local officials entrusted with the
decision," Alito wrote.

The point I am making is that the industry is obviously been run by sharps who have now forced the creation of new legislation to protect consumers from abusive practice. Anyway, this is the tip of the iceberg of what has happened to our formerly robust financial system.
What makes it particularly stupid, unless someone shows me different, is that the credit industry cannot go to the courts to successfully collect at all. Thus if credit card holders went of a mass revolt, the industry would not be able to ever recover. It is very much in their interest to coddle their customers who actually enjoy the service and will work hard to keep it in good order.
