Meat of the Problem
07-31-2009
•
arclein
That's not an oversight. Telling people to give up burgers doesn't poll well. Ben Adler, an urban policy writer, explored that in a December 2008 article for the American Prospect. He called environmental groups and asked them for their policy on meat consumption. "The Sierra Club isn't opposed to eating meat," was the clipped reply from a Sierra Club spokesman. "

Wall Street Is About To Rename The Bonus
07/31/2009
•
The Business Insider
Andrew Cuomo has once again turned the bright glare on Wall Street bonuses, giving everyone a fresh chance to jeer and offer their ideas about how compensation will be reformed.
But the obsession with bonuses is a big distraction whichever side you're on.
If there's something to be enraged about, it's not the bonuses, it's the profits in the banking sector.
Because shareholders of companies like JPMorgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS) are perfectly happy fattening up their big earners.

The Bond Bubble’s Back
07/31/2009
•
Daily Reckoning
Just when you thought the bond bubble was being saved for another day…
The government managed to auction $39 billion worth of 5-year debt yesterday… barely. Wednesday’s debt sale drew a bid-to-cover ratio of 1.92, the lowest investor demand since September 2008. Low demand forced Uncle Sam to jack up interest rates at the last minute in two separate bond auctions this week " yesterday’s sale and Tuesday’s $42 billion auction of 2-year notes.
So what’s an indebted government to do? Manipulate the market, of course.

07-31-2009
•
McClatchy News
A young Guantanamo detainee appears likely to be sent home after a federal judge concluded he'd been held
illegally and ordered him released after almost seven years.
"After this horrible, long, tortured history, I hope the government
will succeed in getting him back home," U.S. District Judge Ellen Segal
Huvelle told Justice Department lawyers during a court hearing. "Enough has been imposed on this young man to date."

Pelosi and Blue Dog Dems Flooded W Healthcare Insurer Donations
07.31/2009
•
Flopping Aces
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi ramped up her criticism of insurance companies, accusing them of unethical behavior and working to kill a plan to create a new government-run health plan.
“It’s almost immoral what they are doing,” Pelosi said to reporters, referring to insurance companies. “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure,” she said, adding, “They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening.”

07/31/2009
•
Economic Policy Journal
Customer Asset Protection Company, a little-known insurer whose members include Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs,, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo, is becoming the focus of swirling questions as Lehman Brothers' bankruptcy filing puts it to the test.
By some industry estimates reviewed by the insurance department, Capco could face nearly $11 billion in claims as a result of the Lehman bankruptcy but has only about $150 million with which to meet them, NYT writes.
How do you say Ponzi, in insuranceeze?

Bloomberg
The first 12 months of the U.S. recession saw the economy shrink more than twice as much as previously estimated, reflecting even bigger declines in consumer spending and housing, revised figures showed.
The world’s largest economy contracted 1.9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the last three months of 2008, compared with the 0.8 percent drop previously on the books, the Commerce Department said today in Washington

AIG Is Even Worse Off Than You Think
07/30/2009
•
The Business Insider
Remember the fairy tale about AIG being an otherwise healthy insurance company that just got a little crazy selling credit default swaps? Well, it's time to put that one to rest. snippet..
Regulators have been turning a blind eye to this sort of thing because they are worried about putting the taxpayer investment in AIG at risk.
Read that again: we invested billions in AIG and now we can't properly regulate it without putting that investment at risk. It's a brand new type of regulatory capture. Great work, team.

There's some fear out there that one of the big "shoes to drop" could be dropping -- namely our massive debt and the potential unwillingness of our trading partners to keep financing it.

CONgress says Obama born in Hawaii
07-31-2009
•
www.opencongress.org/
Obama MUST have been born in Hawaii Being its part of the bill HR 593. How convenient it is for them to place this in the bill. This has NOT been settled! [ED] Recognizing and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State.
Whereas August 21, 2009, marks the 50th Anniversary of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s signing of Proclamation 3309, which admitted Hawaii into the Union in compliance with the Hawaii Admission Act, enacted by the United States Congress on March 18, 1959
Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii
FYI: Resolutions are not laws. They are legally meaningless. A resolution is made when it’s declared Your Name Day in your hometown. This resolution does nothing to solve the issue of barry’s birthplace though it cleverly served to bring Republicans on board in an official capacity that could be wedged down the road.

Setting the obvious aside, moving a truck load of fresh food from California directly to the East coast with no mechanical vibration at a speed of around 70 mile per hour is a huge commercial improvement. You also can achieve point to point delivery rather easily from a parking lot or open field in California at the processor to a field beside the distributer in New York. This technology package makes this all plausible and economically feasible.

Former Bush Official: Swine Flu Vaccine's Goal is Depopulation
07-31-2009
•
Solari.com blog
Catherine Austine Fitts writes on a recent blog post, "I believe one of the goals of the swine flu vaccine is depopulation.
Perhaps it is the goal of a swine flu epidemic as well, whether
bio-warfare or hype around a flu season."
Notice exactly what
Catherine Fitts is saying here. She is saying that one of the goals of the
vaccine is depopulation! The vaccine is the cause!!
Fitts is NOT saying
that the swine flu is going to cause depopulation! She is simply saying that the vaccine is going to
kill the people.
