I first heard of libertarianism and the Libertarian Party around 1976 from a Flagstaff physician, Murray Feldstein. His nurse/assistant or receptionist (I cannot remember which) was a staunch opponent of fluoride for all "those" reasons. Now I knew a reasonable amount about fluoride and teeth and cavity prevention. I was not really persuaded by her arguments against fluoride supplementation save one, and it was what this guy in the article said almost verbatim:

"It's medication without individual consent."

Yup. I couldn't argue with that. An automatic rejection of fluoridating water for me from that point on. Worse, companies were putting fluoride in toothpaste and mouthwash without offering non-fluoridated versions, and bureaucrats suggesting milk and orange juice follow suit and there was discussion of requiring it in delivered bottle water. Nice. Something strange when we just can't seemingly get enough fluoride to satisfy our masters.
