I found this article very interesting. However, the authors fail to appreciate that fungus is essentially inedible by humans. Oh sure, you can eat fungus. Many mushrooms are exquisite in their flavor. But with the exception of providing a few B vitamins, the mass of fungus is indigestible. Perfect for dieting bulk and flavoring, but not something to sustain you. I suppose future astronauts could harvest fungi to feed animals that can digest fungi and subsequently harvest the animals.
