Parents around the nation are upset at Common Core practices in schools. They claim the system does not allow schools, or students, to properly test students. Proponents of Common Core teaching say the system provides schools with a consistent learning path. Supporters claim teachers and students have a clear idea of what is to be taught, and learned, in different subjects. Many critics of this style of teaching say the curriculum discourages diversity. So far, 45 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the standards. When the curriculum was first developed, many conservatives felt it represented a federal takeover of education. The Obama Administration strongly supports the ideals of Common Core. Now, opposition is brewing to the standards from liberal groups. Doctor Duke Pesta is a English professor from the University of Wisconsin. He is also one of the leading voices in the country, speaking out against the Common Core Curriculum.
