It's a popular service in major cites that's trying to make a move into Birmingham. Web-based service Uber wants to operate here but first city leaders had to revise Birmingham's transportation codes.
Tuesday morning, the Birmingham City Council updated its transportation rule to allow ride sharing apps, like Uber, to make rounds in the Magic City.
"Initially, the current city codes would categorize Uber as a transportation company and we would fall under that regulatory banner as a taxi company. Uber is a technology company," Taylor Bennett said.
