For years, failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has made outlandish claims about supposed collusion between former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and considering her apparently close historical ties to deep-pocketed Ukrainian donors, the reasons for her posturing become much clearer.

Clinton's links to generous benefactors in Ukraine were raised recently by firebrand Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), who asserted during a political rally in Texas that the former secretary of State has benefited greatly from financial infusions from contributors hailing from that country.

"They would rather talk about Russia, Russia, Russia, and Ukraine, and talk about possible war, than talk about the real truth that Ukraine – don't forget this – Ukraine was the No. 1 donor to Hillary Clinton when she was running for president," Greene told the assembled crowd, according to Politifact.

The liberal "fact-checking" outfit went on to try and debunk the thrust of Greene's statement by splitting hairs and highlighting technicalities, declaring her representations to be false because Clinton did not receive campaign donations in 2016 from the Ukrainian government proper and quoting a political science professor in support of the proposition that "such contributions are illegal under federal law."

Politifact noted that a spokesperson for Greene pointed its staff to a 2015 Wall Street Journal chart showing a host of high-dollar donations – totaling more than $10 million – to the Clinton Foundation that came, admittedly, not from the Ukrainian government itself, but from Ukrainian nationals including a steel mogul as well as a former parliamentarian.
