Detective feared for partner's life when he blindly fired into car

• East Valley Tribune
A Mesa detective who shot and killed a 15-year-old girl at the end of a car chase on May 28, fired his weapon to protect his partner, according to a police report.  The car had heavily tinted windows and Detective Nathan Schlitz fired five to six rounds through the driver's side window.

You know, I am getting really tired of these cowboy cops in this town.  Every time you turn around some other innocent bystander or wrongly accused person is getting blasted by the cops.  Its high time we privatized the police departments in this state (and completely privatized; not some fascist crap like the so-called privatization of fire services in Scottsdale under Rural/Metro).  Until that time, as a stop gap measure, we need an independent investigative body with subpeona and indictment power yet unassociated with the prosecutors office or the cops.  Its job would be to investigate police involved shootings, allegations of brutality, and other malefeasance.  Hey, if the cops didn't do anything wrong, then there is nothing for them to fear, right? Time to rein in the cowboys.
