Jailed for yawning: Judge responsible orders man released
08-14-2009
•
Chicago Tribune
Judge Daniel Rozak, who according to court records has in the past
typically accepted an apology before releasing people jailed on
contempt charges, instead delivered a short lecture to Clifton
Williams, 33, who stood before the bench in shackles.
"I just first of all want to make it clear: You were never in custody
for yawning, you never were," Rozak said. "It was a sound ... that was
offensive to the court."

Car Seizure Law Used to Take Bike from Little Girl
08/14/2009
•
TheNewspaper.com
Police in Frankston, Australia used automobile seizure laws this weekend to impound a toy motorcycle belonging to a little girl. While under her father's supervision, Laney Frankland, 5, had been riding in circles around a reserve near the end of a neighborhood cul-de-sac on a 49cc motorbike. Police arrived on the scene late in the afternoon to tell the little girl that she was not supposed to be riding in that location. The officers then summoned a tow truck to take away her bike. The girl ran to her mother.

"Grab some clothes and get into the van, now."
For an instant, that directive, and the tone in which it was issued, had the opposite of its intended effect: Korrin
and our five older children, momentarily paralyzed by shock, looked at
me in alarm. There was something in both the tone of my voice, and the
expression on my face, that was new and a little frightening. None of
them had seen my "game face" before. They were seeing it now.
Just seconds earlier, Korrin
and I had been confronted on our doorstep by two very nice,
well-dressed women who informed us that an anonymous "child
endangerment" complaint had been filed with the Child Protective
Services.

Off to the Gulag? Socialism is the new "N" Word..
08/14/2009
•
BlueLoriBlogSpot
This Patriotic American had the audacity to call Obamadeathcare what it is Socialism...
It needed to be said, so I said it. In an interview I did yesterday on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 show, I said that Barack Obama's policies are leading us to socialism, and we must stand up and take action to fight back!
I was invited on the CNN program to talk about our upcoming "Tea Party Express" tour which is shaping up to be a hugely important national effort. You can see the video of my appearance below. Here was the quote that's generated so much attention, and just so you know, I proudly stand behind my comments 100%
The question is now will he be off to the Gulag after all Liberal Fascists have deemed using the word "Socialist" is the same as the "N" word. From the mainstream Communist Nightly News..
LOL I like this take on the subject!

Federal spending surpasses $3 trillion mark
08-14-2009
•
Houston Chronicle
This week, annual federal spending surpassed the $3 trillion mark
for the first time in our nation's history. In July, the U.S.
government spent more money -- $332 billion -- than in any other month
in history.
The current deficit for the year stands at $1.27 trillion -- three
times last year's record of $459 billion. The individual share of this
year's deficit for every American is $4,100 -- by fall that share will
approach $6,000. The national debt currently stands at $11.7 trillion,
or $38,000 for every American.

•
CameraFRAUD
Please join CameraFRAUD for this important fundraiser to help gather the estimated $1300 needed to rent a booth at the upcoming Arizona State Fair!
An astounding 1.1 million people are expected to visit the fair in late October / early November. By having a booth at this event, we hope to collect a significant number of signatures for the ballot initiative, as well as provide freedom-related materials to the attendees (excellent opportunity to sell the Freedom's Phoenix Vendetta masks and constitutions for a donation to support FP, too!)

Will The Democrats Cut Wall Street Out Of Cap-and-Trade?
08/14/2009
•
The Business Insider
"Goldman Sachs, Obama's top corporate source of campaign funds, has been a lead lobbyist for carbon caps. Can Democrats really freeze them out of the promised profits of carbon trading?" Carney asks.
Tim doubts it. He expects Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Charlie Rangel to come to Wall Street's rescue.
"Also expect a bump in Dems' Wall Street fundraising in coming weeks," he writes.

Does David Rubenstein Own Elizabeth Warren?
08/13/09
•
Economic Policy Journal
Carlyle Group's Davis Rubenstein wants to gobble up smaller banks from around the country.
Lately, Elizabeth Warren has been running around the country talking to anyone who will listen and telling them that small banks are undercapitalized and need a cumulative additional $12 to $14 billion.
Guess who wants to supply that amount (with the help of government financing)?
The recent report by Warren's Oversight Committee also includes the $12 to $14 billion number.

New York Times Doesn't Read Its Own Healthcare Horror Articles
08/14/2009
•
Economic Policy Journal
NYT is out with an article this morning pimping Obama's healthcare program.
The first paragraph is an incredible example of audacity and cluelessness:
The stubborn yet false rumor that President Obama’s health care proposals would create government-sponsored “death panels” to decide which patients were worthy of living seemed to arise from nowhere in recent weeks.
Duh! Out of nowhere?
NYT Magazine just weeks ago ran an article by Peter Singer,Why We Must Ration Health Care.
In that article, Singer wrote

Banking On The Financial System? Not So Fast!
08/14/2009
•
The Market Ticker
Hoh hoh hoh! We're finally seeing some recognition of what I've been talking about for the last two years!
Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- More than 150 publicly traded U.S. lenders own nonperforming loans that equal 5 percent or more of their holdings, a level that former regulators say can wipe out a bank’s equity and threaten its survival.
And Bloomberg appears to have recognized the key problem with these banks (all of which should have been shut over a year ago):
Excluding the stress-test list, banks with nonperformers above 5 percent had combined deposits of $193 billion, according to Bloomberg data. That’s almost 15 times the size of the FDIC’s deposit insurance fund at the end of the first quarter.
Yeah, that's a problem.
But the real problem is regulatory malfeasance. See, the purpose of the Tier Capital Ratio is to permit the government (FDIC) to come in via the OTS or OCC before the regulatory capital cushion is entirely depleted, and if the law is actually followe

Loophole in government program to buy toxic securities could cost taxpayers
08/13/2009
•
LA Times
A controversial $40-billion government program to buy toxic securities from ailing banks has a flaw that law enforcement and financial experts say could allow traders to illegally profit from inside information.
Critics of the program say that without adequate safeguards, traders could use the tens of billions of dollars provided by the government to manipulate prices and exploit the price swings in other trades.
Because the government is providing 75% of the program's money -- $30 billion -- the manipulations could lead to significant losses by taxpayers.
"It is a conflict by design," said Neal Barofsky, the special inspector general for the banking rescue program who has urged tighter controls on the nine trading firms selected to participate.

Back in July, a software company named Smartronix landed an $18 million contract to build a Web site where taxpayers could easily track billions in federal stimulus money. It was just another part of the Obama administration’s ongoing effort to bring transparency to stimulus spending, we were told.
But it seems the drive for transparency doesn’t cover the contract itself.

Economist: Claim that Economy Has Recovered “Is Like Somebody Borrowing Money from Their Uncle...
08/13/2009
•
Washington;s Blog
John Hussman - PhD economist and former professor of economics and international finance at the University of Michigan - has a great quote:
If you look carefully at the economic data that shows improvement, and correct for the impact of government outlays, it is difficult to find anything but continued deterioration in private demand and investment. What we do see is a government that has run what is now a trillion dollar deficit year-to-date, representing some 7% of GDP.
That sort of tab will undoubtedly buy some amount of Cool-Aid, but it has been something of a disappointment to watch how eagerly investors have guzzled it down. It is not at all clear that short-term, deficit-financed improvement necessarily implies sustained growth in the context of a deleveraging cycle. This is like somebody borrowing money from their Uncle and then celebrating that their income has gone up.

"Obamacare Is to Health Reform What Bank Bailouts Are to Financial System Reform
08/14/2009
•
Washington;s Blog
This is not about civil discourse. This is about propaganda. The Obama administration and the Democratic Congressional leadership have sold out health care reform for the tainted coin of the medical-industrial industry, and are holding, or trying to hold, these meetings around the country to promote legislation that has essentially been written for them by that industry--legislation that will force everyone to pay for insurance as offered, and priced, by the private insurance industry. What a deal for those companies--a captive market of 300 million people! There will be little or no effort to control prices, and the higher costs will be financed through higher taxes..
This isn't "reform." It's corruption, pure and simple...
The only proper response at this point is obstruction, and the more militant and boisterous that obstruction, the better...
